Melanie Minns

Workskills Administrator

Mel started at the beginning of the year and is really enjoying the job so far. In her own words ‘the team and the members have been friendly and welcoming and each day is so different from the next.’
She came from a background of horticultural therapy having ran garden centres staffed by adults with learning disabilities, and even had a period of time having fun doing garden makeovers for the BBC. In her earlier career she worked as a freelance photographer and stylist and as a learning support assistant at further education venues in these subjects.
For the last few years she has had administration jobs within the NHS and worked part time gardening, keeping her interest in horticulture going. She is thrilled to work alongside adults with learning disabilities again and has met some fantastic people.

It was a massive decision for his family to make and by choosing AWF it means they trust totally in the service. I am of the opinion that AWF is the only provision in the county for D and he is very happy to attend.

I haven’t seen D for ages and he looks like a new man . The stress has gone from his face – he looks great Well done !!!!

A big thank you to yourself and the About with Friends staff for another great trip! J had a fantastic time, going on the Harry Potter Studio Tour, which he had wanted to do for ages and ages.

To all the staff at About with Friday, I had a wonderful time with you guys, and I want to say a big thank you for looking after me. Love from K.

AWF offers and amazing, caring, supportive group to both special needs adults/children & their families. Since N joined you he has been to some fantastic places, met some amazing friends and done activities we would never have thought he’d do. You have helped our family life improve by making N a happier, more content, confident boy.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to you and everyone else that supported H on the recent trip – she had an amazing time. I enjoyed look at the Twitter feed to see what you had been up to.

We cannot tell you what AWF means to us as a family – a lifeline, a light in the dark. Something that has offered our daughter equality, to have a social life and really support us as a family.

I always have a smile on my face after a day with the members of the team. They are all individuals and each, in their own way, bring joy to my life. They are all much appreciated and I enjoy the gardening of course!

After 30 years of trying to get P engaged in activities, he is now, under your care, beginning to grow like a great Oak tree.

Having spent many years in school with little improvements in I’s behaviour and speech, in just a few weeks with you the improvements in both areas are plain to see. Please continue as you are, as life at the moment for us as a family is greatly improved because of your input.
