Enjoy a programme built around you

Our Bespoke Programmes create opportunities for young people and adults who find it difficult to cope in other settings which are more prescribed.

The Bespoke service is unique to each member, developed around their needs, abilities and their desired outcomes. Each member has their own targets which are reviewed quarterly; we encourage families and carers to have an input into these outcomes.

In partnership with social workers, families and the member we develop exciting programmes to enable growth, a sense of achievement and above all be fun!

Typically outcomes for this service are:

  • Facilitating social interaction
  • Development of fine motor skills for independence
  • Managing emotions and feelings and coping with others
  • Having involvement in the work skills programme

The programme allows for time to be involved in the café, work skills or catering services. The Community Shop gives members another exciting opportunity to develop skills and have engaging new experiences.

The service design is for young adults who find it difficult to engage in other services or our work skills programme; this could be due to complex needs, anxiety or degree of disability. We are proud that many of the members involved have a 1:1 ratio with staff, reducing to 2:1 support as they develop in confidence.

The bespoke programmes are flexible and member-led, offering a real variety and alternative to educational settings. Members have choices in their routine and learn vital skills to be able to live as independently as possible. They will learn to develop personal skills and complete everyday tasks which will make their life easier and reduce frustration and anxieties they may have.

We cannot tell you what AWF means to us as a family – a lifeline, a light in the dark. Something that has offered our daughter equality, to have a social life and really support us as a family.

It was a massive decision for his family to make and by choosing AWF it means they trust totally in the service. I am of the opinion that AWF is the only provision in the county for D and he is very happy to attend.

To all the staff at About with Friday, I had a wonderful time with you guys, and I want to say a big thank you for looking after me. Love from K.

AWF offers and amazing, caring, supportive group to both special needs adults/children & their families. Since N joined you he has been to some fantastic places, met some amazing friends and done activities we would never have thought he’d do. You have helped our family life improve by making N a happier, more content, confident boy.

I haven’t seen D for ages and he looks like a new man . The stress has gone from his face – he looks great Well done !!!!

Thank you for taking K to Milton Keynes on holiday, it made her extremely happy. Selfishly, it gave my wife a much sought after period of respite after 16 years of constant care.

After 30 years of trying to get P engaged in activities, he is now, under your care, beginning to grow like a great Oak tree.

Over the last five years I have had a fortnightly, 2 hour designated gardening slot. I highly value your service and ethos.

Just a short note to thank you all for your help with our daughter. she has spent many years at school with little improvement in her behaviour and speech, yet in just a few weeks she has been with you guys the improvements in both areas are plain to see.

I am not sure what the different methods used are but please continue as you are, as life at the moment for us as a family is greatly improved because of your input.

We are very aware of her complex needs and how she can change like the wind but we will continue to enjoy the fruits of your labours.

A big thank you to yourself and the About with Friends staff for another great trip! J had a fantastic time, going on the Harry Potter Studio Tour, which he had wanted to do for ages and ages.
